Private Breakfast with Simon Fraser, Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Northern Ireland Office hosted an in camera breakfast meeting with Simon Fraser, Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on 23 April 2013.
As the Permanent Under-Secretary of the FCO, Simon Fraser is responsible for directly advising the Foreign Secretary, William Hague and the Prime Minister on foreign policy, and for managing the FCO.
A recent study by Northern Ireland Chamber has revealed that only 2% of registered businesses in Northern Ireland are actively exporting which has huge implications for the sustainability of the economy and the achievability of the targets for export under the Programme for Government. The breakfast, part of the Danske Bank Export First Programme, provided a range of business representatives and exporters with the opportunity to hear how the FCO can support local export activity and help overcome challenges.
Speaking after the event, Chamber President Mark Nodder said: “We hope this morning’s discussion will inform government, help benefit future export activity and ultimately the Northern Ireland economy.”
