Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce welcomes G8 to Lough Erne
David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has announced County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland as the venue for next year’s G8 summit of world leaders.
Commenting on the news that the leaders of eight of the world’s richest countries, including Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel, are coming to Northern Ireland for their annual summit next year, Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce President, Mark Nodder said:
“Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Prime Minister’s announcement that the main venue for the G8 event will be the five-star Lough Erne golf resort near Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. The Lough Erne Resort is long standing member of the Chamber and we are delighted for them and County Fermanagh. It is also great news for Minister Arlene Foster who has worked tirelessly to promote Northern Ireland and her home county internationally.’’
Chief Executive Ann McGregor MBE added:
“No event of this magnitude has ever been held in Northern Ireland before and it will have a significant economic impact, showcasing the region on the world stage to potential inward investors and tourists. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this summit to Northern Ireland.”
Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce is awaiting a decision on our bid to host the 2015 World Chamber Congress, which could see up to 2,000 business representatives from Chambers of Commerce across the globe visiting Northern Ireland in two years time. They can now follow in the footsteps of some of the world’s greatest leaders.
