Feb 2013: What about the ‘long promised’ Business Bank?

While there have been some immensely encouraging success stories recently from companies investing here and others securing worthwhile business abroad, may firms are continuing to experience difficulties especially in terms of funds for growth.
The Northern Ireland Chamber continues to liaise with local banks across a range of issues including support for companies eager to grow sales abroad, and Danske Bank is playing a vitally important role in our new Export First programme that aims to guide local companies to success abroad.
What we would like to see is movement by the government to create the long promised Business Bank. We share the conviction of our colleagues in the British Chambers of Commerce that such an initiative is needed to bring about fundamental change in business finance and to encourage exporters in particular to grow. The Chamber also recently teamed up with BDO to launch the Business Growth Programme to help firms grow. It’s also a good example of our work to promote business between member companies.
